Here are five spiritual time and money wasters that will help shift your thinking into a New Covenant way of life faster!
1. Giving Money To Receive Blessings
Stop wasting your money by trying to receive blessings through giving. In this tradition you are not only trying to manipulate God but you are literally using money to receive something you already have. You have been blessed already. No matter which blessing you are trying to receive, it has been obtain through the cross. “Why haven’t I received, the blessings that you say i already have? I don’t feel blessed!” The reason you don’t “feel” blessed or haven’t received in the natural, is because you are always trying to obtain the blessing through your own efforts, when it’s always been yours through Christ’s efforts. You need to believe and receive instead of trying to earn. Start living out of what you already have! Instead of wasting your money to earn something you have already received, give out of the love of giving, Give Because you have received, not in order to receive.
(See Eph 1:3, Eph 2:7, 2 Cor 8:9, Gal 3:14, Acts 8:20)
2. Running After Different Anointings/Powers/Mantles
Why would people run after Elijah’s anointing, John G Lake’s anointing, David’s anointing or anybody else’s for that matter when they already have Christ’s anointing, baffles my mind. Stop seeking and just look in the mirror. Yes, as a believer you are already anointed with Christ’s anointing and that anointing will never leave you! You may not “feel” anointed but you are anointed 24hrs a day 365 days a year. It’s not an existential mystical thing that comes upon you when you do things just right; it’s been in you since you were placed in Christ Jesus. What greater anointing is there then Jesus’ anointing? Stop wasting your time trying to get other peoples’ anointing when you could live out the source of all anointings: Christ in you!
(See 2 Cor 1:20-23, Eph 1:13, Rom 8:11, Gal 3:26-27, Heb 1:9, 1 John 2:20, 1 John 2:27)
3. Digging Up Your Past Looking For Generational Curses
The next time someone tells you that in order to be set free you have to go in to your past and dig up old family sins, you can say, “No thank you, I don’t need to waste my time, I was set free by Jesus on the Cross and my generation goes back to God the Father and you can’t curse what He has blessed.
Num 23:20 Behold, I received a command to bless: He (God) has blessed, and I cannot revoke it.
Since we are blessed, and anointed Children of God seated with Christ on the right hand of the throne, how can we be cursed? The only way you can become cursed is if Jesus becomes cursed. And if the devil is trying to curse you, tell him to get lost!
(See Gal 3:12-14, 2 Cor 5:17, 1 Tim 1:4, Ez 18, Deut 24:16, Tit 3:9)
4. Trying To Constantly Defeat The Devil
Are you spending time in prayer trying to defeat the devil? How much time have you spent trying to ‘bombard the heavenlies’ to defeat the devil and the principalities? The devil is already defeated! Jesus has done it all, “Wait what about Eph 6:12” I hear you say. “Don’t we wrestle against principalities and powers?” I tell you, you cannot interpret Ephesians 6 without reading Ephesians 1:17-23 or Colossians 2:13-15! You don’t have to waste time trying to defeat him, Jesus defeated the Devil like David defeated Goliath. Now you can spend a lot more of your time praising God and setting people free from a defeated enemy!
(See Acts 10:38, Phl 2:10, Col 2:10, Rom 8:37-39, Matt 16:18-19, Luke 9:1-2, Mark 16:17-20)
5. Spending Time At The Cross, Repenting For The Forgiveness Of Sins
You don’t have to spend your time seeking forgiveness for every little sin that you have done. Jesus forgave you on the cross. You are not forgiven because you ask for it; you are forgiven because of what Jesus did on the Cross. If forgiveness were based on you asking for it every night, you better hope you didn’t forget one somewhere incase you kick it before you get the chance to confess. All your sins have been completely forgiven, removed as far as the east is from the west. They are gone. Before you were saved your sins were already forgiven, when you were saved you entered into that forgiveness. Repentance, when you were unsaved is entering in from law into His grace. Repentance after you are saved is simply to change your thinking regarding how God relates to you. As you change your think your mind becomes renewed and your life is transformed. You are in a NEW Covenant! Ours sins never even made us sinners in the first place. We were sinners because we were born of Adam. Now we are righteous not by our actions but because we are born of Jesus! Just read Rom 5:12-20!
(See 1 Cor 15:22, Col 2:13-15, Heb 8:12, 1 John 2:12, Rom 3:23-24, Jer 31:34, Isa 43:25, Psa 103:3, Heb 10:17, Psa 103:10)

Some of you are not going to like what I am about to say.
But I am going to say it anyway.
I have been asked the following question a few times now: “Can a believer have a generational curse?” Personally, I always answer ‘Yes.’ I will explain why in a moment. I have heard many use Ezekiel 18, Deut 24:16, John 9:1-3 and Gal 3:13 to say it is impossible for a believer to be cursed, generationally or otherwise. “My generation goes back one to God Himself and He has no generational curses.” Don’t get me wrong, I believe all those scriptures and I agree with the above statement too. So how can I still say believers can be under a generational curse? For the same reason that believers can still get sick. But shouldn’t, but they can.
Yes, Jesus redeemed us from the curse. He equally carried our sicknesses and diseases. Why then do we still fight sickness and disease so passionately but live in denial about curses? Why are curses apparently ‘automatically’ dealt with in our realm even to the point that some believe they don’t exist but we have to still go heal sick people? Was sickness not part of the curse? In fact, Deut 28 lists sickness and disease more than 21 times in its list of curses. Did Jesus do a better job at freeing us from curses then He did from healing us? No, He equally made provision for both. So why do some fight the one and deny even the existence of the other? Because if the enemy can get you to live in denial about one of his schemes, he can attack you with it and you won’t do anything about it.
One the same note, John 9:1-3 is not the only time Jesus had something to say about curses. Have you read Matt 5:44 and Luke 6:28? Bless those who curse you. Jesus clearly shows that the way to deal with curses is to bless. He doesn’t deny the existence of curses. He also doesn’t say just wait till I die and curses will cease to exist. Even Paul and James wrote about this in Rom 12:14 and James 3:9, after the cross. “Bless and do not curse.” Why would Paul say, ‘Do not curse’ if curses don’t even exist anymore? Why would James say people curse each other if curses don’t exist? Easy answer, those who say curses don’t exist are in denial. As long as they are in denial, they are also ineffective for the kingdom in this area.
Please don’t hear what I am not saying. I am not saying go dig into your past and try to figure out the sins of your forefathers. That’s dumb. Don’t do that. Jesus dealt with all their and your sin already. Your job is not to look for sin but to look for where the enemy is trespassing and kick him out. If he is stealing generationally, kick him out generationally. If your mom had breast cancer and now you have breast cancer, guess what? You’re being attacked generationally, whether you want to call it a curse or not. If your dad had an anger problem and now you have one, you are being attacked generationally. If your whole family suffers from depression, the attack is both generational and familial. If all the men in your family have the same problem, you are being attacked generationally. If all the women in your family have the same problem, you are being attacked generationally. The problems aren’t just physical in the form of hereditary disease, it can also be emotional as well as social and economical.
Why am I so adamant about this? Because I have seen too many curses wreak havoc in people’s lives. When they come for ministry and we address a curse, often times demons manifest kicking and screaming. I will never forget one time when all we did was speak a blessing against any curses in my one friend’s life. She immediately went down and started screaming and speaking in a different voice which said, ‘I am death, here to take her life. You can’t stop me.’ Needless to say death seemed to momentarily have forgotten who Jesus is and who He left in charge. After quickly reminding him, my friend was free again. Only after this did my friend tell us she had a couple of near cancer scares in the last year.
Don’t live in ignorance and denial about the enemy’s schemes. Learn to fight and then go do something. People are dying while we debate this stuff.

Something I was exposed to at a young age thanks to my dad and brother’s curiosity was deliverance. To be quite honest, it freaked me out! I was, however, super excited that my dad started searching for something more from God than just predictable 1 hour services. We started seeing God move and manifest in really spectacular ways. And as it should be, that manifestation of God’s glory exposed the devil. My dad realized quickly, that when the devil is exposed like that, it is the best time to deal with him. And God bless my dad, he has the amazing gift of verbal diarrhea. So he would share every experience and often they would have gory details. Add to that his amazing ability to exaggerate and you’ve got one frightened teenager on your hands. Like most other people I was seeing flashes of The Exorcist movie every time he would share testimonies with me. Of course I realize now that my dad was merely excited about the dominion he had and how when he spoke the demons listened and trembled. He wanted other Christians to know that if he could do it, so could they.
I loved learning about the Holy Spirit and practicing the gifts with fellow Christians during the weekly courses my dad ran, but as far as I was concerned, deliverance was not for me, I simply wasn’t called to it as my dad and brother clearly were. The devil naturally assisted my fears by giving me nightmares. I would dream of trying to deliver people who were over-the-top possessed and when I rebuked them and tried to cast them out, they simply wouldn’t go and I would see the devil laughing at me. You see, the devil knows that every Christian (Son of God) has enormous potential, even if we don’t realize it, he does! So he will try to break down your potential before you realize it. After all it is easy to just pull out an oak tree when it has just started growing.
That’s the amazing thing about the Grace message. It really puts into perspective how awesome my position in Christ is. Pastors, friends, your own husband and several fellow Christians can tell you daily, but until it becomes your revelation, you won’t believe it. I am happy to say that I finally made that revelation MINE! I was afraid of confronting the devil before and kept praying to God not to use me in deliverance. And God was faithful to my prayers. He doesn’t force Himself on His bride. But as my revelation of Grace and authority grew, so did my confidence to defeat the devil (It took me 10 years to realize, though, so I hope you get there faster than I did!). God knew I was ready and started bringing people along my path that needed deliverance. It is a very empowering and humbling experience when you tell the devil to leave in Jesus’ name and he does! I am a tremendous fan of roller coasters and other thrill rides and I can tell that there is nothing quite as exhilarating as kicking the devil’s butt! Well who’s laughing now? And for those of you wondering, it wasn’t like The Exorcist at all.
Now I am not trying to convince you to go and find a possessed person and go to town on them. Please, I’m just trying to encourage you to read your Bible and see how Jesus dealt with the devil and to remember that you have the same authority. And just like my dad, to inspire you by saying, “If I can do it, so can you!” God knows when you are ready and he sent the Holy Spirit just for you, so that even if you are not completely ready, the Spirit inside you is. What an awesome time we live in where we get to show Christ to the world. And what better way to do that than through freedom, deliverance and grace!
Phil 2:13 For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. (ESV)
