Questions

We have made a list of some of the common questions people often ask us. If you have a question you would like answered about healing, the supernatural power of God, or anything else for that matter, please write to us and send in your questions to:

contact@charismaministries.org

Can sin stop the Power of God to heal or deliver me?

No. Romans 1:16 tells us the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. The word ‘salvation’ in the Greek is the word soteria which also means to heal, to protect, to deliver, to make whole. Your sin wasn’t able to stop God from saving you, and neither is your sin able to stop Him from healing or delivering you. If sin could stop the power of God, sin would be more powerful than the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Now I am not saying sin is OK, but don’t let it stop you from coming to God. If your sin could have influenced His love for you, then He wouldn’t have sent Jesus to the cross to die for you. Sela.

Does God allow sickness to teach me something?

No. That is the cruelest thing you can say about a parent. If God teaches that way, then we could too right? So why don’t we give all our children cancer or aids to ensure they become better people? Because it’s stupid reasoning! God knows how to give good gifts. Something that steals health, kills people and destroys families is not my idea of a good and perfect gift from above. Also, if it were God’s will for you to be sick, then you would be in sin and rebellion going to the doctor to get better. Think about it, if you believe God makes you sick, you should pray for the symptoms to become worse so you can really learn your lesson.

Are doctors and medicine God’s way of healing today?

I have nothing against doctors personally, but I do not think they or medicine are God’s way of healing in this age. If they were, then why are doctors charging and why does medicine have negative side-effects? Jesus never asked for money and there weren’t any side-effects either. Now God can work healing through a doctor, but that is not His best way. His best way is the stripes of Jesus. Personally I agree with Curry Blake who says doctors are closer to the heart of God than most Christians because they have at least dedicated their lives to eradicating sickness and suffering. That is more than what we can say for a vast majority of the church today.

Does taking medicine void my faith?

No. Medicine is not stronger than God. If you have faith, you will be healed. If you then take medicine, your body will react differently to the medication. When it does, go to your doctor to check the need to continue taking the medicine. Don’t break your glasses after somebody prays for your eyes either. Put the glasses back on and check if you can still see through them. Also never listen to anybody who tells you to take or stop taking medicine unless they are a doctor. It is illegal to give advice or instruction on the intake of medicine if you are not a doctor.

Do I need to tithe for God to be able to bless me?

No. You need to believe in Jesus and the free gift of His righteousness. God blessed you based on that and that alone. If you are tithing in order to receive a blessing, it is vain worship because you are trying to buy God’s blessings. See what Paul told Simon when he tried to buy the free gift in Acts: 8:18-23. So next time you hear somebody ‘begging’ you for money from the pulpit and they say something along the lines of “If you don’t give, God can’t help you. You have to plant the seed so God can grow the miracle”, just remember that your miracle lies in Christ, and you can’t buy Him, you can only believe. I have nothing against giving and I give myself, but I do not expect a blessing from God because of my giving or any other actions because that is called self-righteousness and it falls under the law covenant. I expect God’s blessings because I am the righteousness of God through the obedience of the one man, Jesus Christ (Rom 5:19). Because I am an heir of God and co-equal heir of Christ by faith (Rom 8:17). The New Covenant is by grace through faith, not by grace through tithing.

Does God have a set time for my healing?

Yes. His set time was at the cross. By the stripes of Jesus your WERE healed (1 Pet 2:24) There is no future set time when God is going to do something to cause your healing. He did everything already and he did them perfectly. NOW is the day of salvation. (Salvation = soteria = healing, deliverance, protection, salvation, to make whole)

Can anyone minister healing or is it a gift?

According to Mark 16:15-18 both healing and deliverance are signs that follow ANY believer. If you believe in Jesus, then you can lay hands on the sick and they will recover. There is no mention of a healing anointing in the Bible. The gifts of healings do exist and do have a function, but we believe in the priesthood of all believers, saints who are equipped by the 5 fold ministry gifts to enable us to do the work of the ministry. You have the Holy Spirit and He has all the gifts anyway! Gifting is not an excuse.

Do I need to ask God to heal me?

No. Never ask God to do something He has already done. Since healing was provided by the stripes of Jesus and the works of the cross are finished, God has already done everything He needed to do. If you ask Him for something He has already provided, you are technically saying He hasn’t provided it yet meaning you are in doubt. Jesus taught us to speak to the mountain and tell it what we want it to do. He didn’t say talk to God about it, He said talk to the mountain. “Cancer, GET OUT in Jesus Name” is ministering in faith and authority. “God, please heal me of cancer if it is Your will” is ministering out of doubt and not knowing the will of God. There are no “ifs” in the prayer of faith.

Was Paul’s thorn in the flesh not a sickness given to him by God to keep him humble?

No. 2 Corinthians 12:7 says the thorn was a messenger of satan, not a messenger of God. If you read the verse in context with the previous chapter, you will soon see that the thorn he was referring to was the persecution he suffered for the sake of the Gospel. If you said you had a thorn in the flesh in that culture and time, it meant that you were facing persistent difficulty caused by a third party. In Paul’s case, he was persecuted wherever he preached. That was what he asked God to remove. He was irritated by the persecution that hindered the spread of the Gospel. Jesus said that if He is persecuted that we will be persecuted also. In such times, the grace of God is enough to see us through. A thorn in the flesh always refers to outside affliction and resistance against a person’s will, never to sickness. (Also read Numbers 33:55)

Can I get a ‘mantle of power’?

The teaching about people receiving ‘mantles’ that in turn empower them to do supernatural works stem from the story of Elisha and Elijah. When Elijah was taken up into heaven by the wind, his mantle fell back towards earth and Elisha took it. The story started where Elijah put his mantle on Elisha as a symbolic gesture that he is to be Elijah’s successor. After taking the mantle that fell down, Elisha went back to the Jordan and rolled it up in the same way Elijah had just done moments before to part the waters, hit the water and the river parted again. I believe Elisha did this purely to see if he had taken the place of Elijah because he never used the mantle for any other miracle again. Now just because of this one story, people want to build doctrines about mantles of power. Funny thing though is that mantles are not mentioned once in the entire New Testament. Neither Jesus, Paul, Peter or any of the other writers of the Bible told anybody to get mantles of power. In fact, the only time Jesus said they had to wait for empowerment, was when the disciples had to wait for the outpouring of Holy Spirit at Pentecost. After that, they were empowered, equipped, anointed and fully furnished to do every good work. So if you have Holy Spirit abiding in you, the personified power of Almighty God united with your spirit, why would you even want a mantle? Is Holy Spirit not strong enough? Is He lacking something? Scripture teaches that we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us. So if I have Christ I don’t need a mantle. Since I have been blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in heavenly places and my sufficiency comes from Christ, I will only need to use a mantle when it is really cold outside, or if I want to put pictures up over the fireplace. Jesus said those who believe in Him will do the same and greater works then He did. Not those who believe and receive mantles. Just believe. That is always the only requirement to do anything for God. Only Believe!

People often say Jesus never told anybody “No” when they needed help. Well honestly I know what they mean but they are wrong. There was this one woman…

Matt 15:21-28 Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” 23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” 24 But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” 25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” 26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” 27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” 28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour. (NKJV)

So this woman comes to Jesus and asks Him to help her daughter. What does Jesus do? He ignores her. But He answered her not a word. I know he didn’t directly say, “No” but ignoring somebody who is asking you for help is basically the same thing. So Jesus is ignoring her and the disciples are fed up with her. They even ask Jesus to send her away. They were telling her no, too. But she doesn’t give up. She keeps on asking. Eventually Jesus answers her: But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” If this isn’t a “No” from Jesus, then what is? So now she has been ignored by God, rejected by His disciples and directly told no by Jesus Himself. Looks pretty bleak, right? Hold on, it gets worse.

She asks Him again. What is Jesus’ next answer? But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” BAM! Another no? Is this woman just not getting it? Come on? Well, she got something, but what she got was something the disciples only realized in Acts 10. It took them years to figure out what this woman already knew. Look at her answer: And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Lets pause here and quickly make a few interesting connections:

  • She wanted healing and deliverance for her daughter.
  • Jesus says if He gave her that, He would be giving away the children’s BREAD.
  • Jesus likens healing to BREAD. When we take communion, we break the BREAD in remembrance of His body broken for us. By His stripes, by His broken body we were healed.
  • Jesus called Himself the BREAD of life.
  • He taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily BREAD” Our daily life, our daily healing, our daily deliverance. Why daily? Because his mercies are new every morning! That’s why!

Ok let’s go on. This woman has now been ignored by Jesus, rejected by His disciples and directly told no twice by Jesus Himself. How many of you would have given up by this stage? Probably all of us. But she refuses to accept no as an answer. Why? Because she got the following revelation: Jesus is God and God is good. If Jesus is God and He is good then He will help me. If He doesn’t help me, then He is not good and therefore He is not God. Jesus was so impressed with her logic that he commended her for having great faith. Jesus only told two people that He was impressed with their faith. She was one of them. She got what she came to get. She asked God for something, was told no 4 times and left with what she asked for and with Jesus giving her praise! What did she realize that took the disciples until Acts 10? That the Gospel will reach the gentiles.

There is nothing that can stop the blessings of the sacrifice from coming your way. Not even God can say no to them (2 Cor 1:20). The only thing that hinders the power of God is you believing there is something hindering the power of God. This woman knew not even a no from Jesus could stop the power of God. She heard Jesus was setting people free. She heard the Gospel and placed her faith in the goodness of God. Change your mind to change your life. Decide whether you think God is good and follow some stubborn logic!

When you are sick and not receiving your answer, you need to become more stubborn than your sickness that is kicking hard against you. Dig in your heals and refuse to take no for an answer. Especially when the no is coming from you or the devil. God has said YES. If He said you are healed than your sickness is in direct violation of God’s will! Start cracking a whip and chase those thieves out of your temple!

Here is sample prayer you can use:

(Name of sickness), GET OUT OF MY BODY!!!! (Affected part of body), BE HEALED NOW!!

Jesus didn’t pray long prayers of petition when He healed people. He told the sickness and devil what He wanted them to do. Build yourself up in your most holy faith and make that communication of your faith (the authoritative command for your body to be healed) effective by acknowledging every good thing that is in you in Christ Jesus. (see Philemon 1:6 and Jude 1:20) Basically, you need to realize you were healed by Jesus’ stripes and then tell your body and the sickness what you realized! Never give up, never surrender. Even if God says no 4 times…

In Grace,

Cornel

When a specific topic is mentioned, are you absolutely sure where you stand on the matter? If you are unsure, then it means your mind is not made up, that you are in two minds, or that you are double-minded. When you are double-minded, you get tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine (James 1:6-8) I am sure you realize that this is not a good thing… The mainstream teaching on generational curses has left many believers unsure of where they stand, not knowing whether they have generational curses or not, and digging into their past to find out what grandma was into. I know this is going to help you make up your mind on this topic! We all know where the teaching originates from, so let’s go look at those scriptures quickly:

Ex 20:4-6 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image — any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. (NKJV)

Now the basic advocates for the generational curse teaching will no doubt use this verse to back up their whole case. “If you do bad things, God is going to punish your children, so don’t do bad things!” Calm down dude, read the whole sentence! “…of those who hate Me.” Now let me ask you a quick question? Do you hate God? If you said no, then that doesn’t apply to you. Not entirely convinced? Well, let’s go to few other scriptures.

Deut 24:16 “Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; a person shall be put to death for his own sin. (NKJV)

See, you are not being punished because grandpa drank too much.

Ezek 18:1-3 The word of the Lord came to me again, saying, 2 “What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge’? 3 “As I live,” says the Lord God, “you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel. (NKJV)

This is a scripture where God swears an oath by Himself saying, “As I live you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel.” The proverb says that the fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge, meaning the children bear the repercussions of the father’s sins. God swears an oath and says this proverb is no longer applicable to Israel. Then God goes on to explain what He means:

Ezek 18:4 “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die. (NKJV)

The generational curse came to an end even before the law covenant did! Why would people who are not even under this covenant anymore try to tell people that they need to dig back into their past and confess their ancestral sins? In the rest of the chapter God explains about a righteous man who has an unrighteous son, and an unrighteous father who has a righteous son. In each case He says that the soul which sins shall die.

Ezek 18:19-20 “Yet you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?’ Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live. 20 The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. (NKJV)

If you have time, read the whole chapter and the examples. But I want to go on the New Covenant and the Generational Curse. Let’s pick it up where Jesus is confronted about it.

John 9:1-3 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. (NKJV)

The Pharisees were trying to see whether Jesus would give an explanation of why a person might be born with an illness. Generational curse teachers also try to use this reasoning to explain why deformed or sick children are born the way they are. “You have cancer because your mother had cancer because her mother smoked.” Well that is not what Jesus said. “Neither this man nor his parents sinned.” So the parents’ sin didn’t make God smite the child with blindness to punish the parents.

John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (NKJV)

I received Jesus, and now I have become a son of God. There are so many verses that say that believers are sons of God. (Rom 8:14, Rom 8:19, Gal 4:6, Phil 2:15, 1 John 3:1 and more) That tells me that my bloodline is now from God. My genealogy goes back one generation to God Himself. Paul said we died with Christ and was raised up with Him too. Any generational curse you might have carried stopped having a right to be on you the day you got saved since you changed families and your Dad has never sinned!

1 Tim 1:3-4 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia — remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. (NKJV)

Here Paul reminds Timothy to tell the people in Ephesus to not teach OTHER doctrine. Other meaning not the same as what he taught them. In the list of other doctrines, Paul mentions endless genealogies, referring to the incorrect doctrine of searching the past for ancestral sin and confessing that to God to receive forgiveness. Not only did Paul tell this to Timothy, he also wrote it to Titus:

Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. (NKJV)

Paul again mentions genealogies something that is be avoided because it is UNPROFITABLE and USELESS. Why? Because God ended it hundreds of years ago, it is not applicable anymore, and Jesus made it complete by becoming a curse for us.

Gal 3:13-14 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (NKJV)

Jesus became a curse for you by dying in the only way it was possible for a person to become accursed of God, by hanging on a tree after dark. Why did He become a curse for us? So the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Him. Any curse you think you have was dealt with at the cross. There is absolutely no reason for you to live with one. It doesn’t matter what grandpa did, all curses have been dealt with! If the effects of curses are still evident in your life, it is just because you have failed to exercise dominion over it by destroying the works of the devil in your life.

But if Jesus dealt with it, then it can’t harm me anymore right? I don’t need to pay attention to it. Well, you can believe that and stay sick, or you can believe Jesus and break that curse. I have seen so many instant healings take place when we exercise dominion over curses. I don’t care why they are there or how they came to be, I just break them.

Prov 26:2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest. (NIV)

Since Jesus became a curse for you, no curse is any longer deserved, meaning no curse has the right to come to rest. But the devil is a thief and looks for people who he thinks won’t exercise dominion, and attacks them with curse. If he can find a person who thinks a curse can be deserved through sin, he knows that person will just sit back and allow the curse to steal from them. That’s why Paul said the devil looks for those whom he can devour. (1 Peter 5:8) If you will learn to establish yourself in the finished works of the cross, the free gift of righteousness and start exercising the power and dominion as a son of God, you won’t have a curse problem; instead, the devil will have a manifested son of God problem! So if you suspect you might have a curse, don’t tell God about it, tell the curse what you want it to do! To be broken, and reversed!

Prov 6:31 Yet when he (talking about a thief) is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house. (NKJV)

My brother-in-law once did this. His car was stolen outside his office. He went and stood on the spot he parked and commanded the devil to restore to him 7 times what he stole. Sure enough, the insurance paid out and he bought another car for the price of the payout. When he went to re-insure the new car, the value of the new car was determined to be exactly 7 times that of the stolen one. You can beat the devil with just about any scripture if you will chose to believe it and act on it!

Glory to God! Freedom to man!
