I still stand by what I said that the thorn was not sent for the purpose of humility. The devil only has one plan and will for you. To steal, kill and destroy. John 10:10 makes that clear. So does 1 Peter 5:8. Paul used the persecution to humble himself. Scripture tells us to 'humble ourselves' (James 4:10, 1 Peter 5:6). That means humility is our responsibility. If somebody else makes you humble, it means they humiliated you. Not the same things as what happened here. Paul humbled himself in the face of persecution. He thwarted the devils attempts and was exalted by God.

You also assume God said 'No' to Paul's request to remove the thorn. He didn't. He said 'My grace is sufficient, my strength is made perfect in weakness.' God's answer to Paul was not 'No', it was rather, "I am not just going to make this go away. I am going to exalt you by making you overcome this in my strength.' In the same way that God didn't just snap His fingers and cleared out Canaan. It required faith and action from the Israelites. This might be an old cliche saying but it still hold true. 'Sailing with God doesn't mean sailing without storms, it means sailing in an unsinkable ship.'

You say above: "The thorn ... was not sent to humble/humiliate Paul"

Yet, Paul says, "in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh"
Help me out here. If "in order to keep me from being conceited" doesn't equate to helping Paul stay humble- What does it mean? And yes, I read the previous blog before asking. You call the argument that it was meant to humble him "Stupid" yet fail to explain what it means if not that.

Thanks!

Just to add to what you said, there is another place in the bible where the thorn in the side or flesh is mentioned. It is in Judges 2:3 and is talking about Israel's enemies.

Hi Leo,

For God to allow any sickness or suffering would mean Jesus didn't die for all and that the work of the cross is not finished. I will explain more about God's reply to Paul in part 3 but I don't currently have an internet connection where I am staying so I am not online much. I will aim to post it soon!

God bless

I believe God allowed the thorn probably Paul's sight. Paul would look to be
handicapped so man would not worship him.
